TRANSLATIONS

English

   1  ʾtm son of Nfy
   2  ʿbd performed the ẓll-ceremony
3  (in fulfillment of) a vow for the sake of the productive lowlands
4  and so favour him and [......].
1-2The word ʿbd could be considered as profession, although it is not determinated for the article, or as a part of a double name (Sima translates as 'of the family of'). In the last case one could suppose that the sculptor forgot to write the second part of the double name.
3For the translation of nḏr as an adverbial accusative ‘in fulfillment of a
vow’, see Wehr apud Sima (p. 99).

The word h-drt may well have originated in a cognate of Arabic dārah 'a wide tract of land among the mountains, reckoned among productive lowlands' (Lane, p. 931c).
For other translations see the bibliography.
